Start your day singing by joining the choir each morning! Becoming a part of our choral family is an experience a student will not regret. No previous music experience is needed, although one does need to be able to carry a tune. Here the student will learn the techniques of singing and how to bring the notes on a page to life. This is not just a great way to meet new people, but a great way to push yourself outside of your comfort zone. Each year is filled with church services, performances, music festivals and in some cases traveling. Most importantly it offers an opportunity to minister through music.
Being a part of an ensemble is a great way to make friends, discover new forms of leadership, push yourself outside of your comfort zone, and to have fun. Middle School Strings is a great way to prepare young strings musicians for future ensembles. Not only are terminology and seating arraignments discussed, so are individual roles, audition processes, and orchestral notation. This is done within a fun environment which encourages creative expression. Our music selection exposes our students to various genres from classical to soundtracks. Each year the group is taken to a music festival where they join several other schools to perform together in a mass group.
Students in strings and orchestra can expect performances at local churches, Christmas and Spring concerts, the yearly drama performances, as well as participating in a local music festival. String students must audition and have experience playing the violin, viola, cello, or bass for at least three to four years. Select wind or brass players from the Concert Winds are invited to join the orchestra. Through rehearsals and performances, students cultivate teamwork, discipline, and creativity as they work towards achieving a cohesive and polished sound. The class provides a platform for students to express themselves through music and immerse themselves in the rich tradition of orchestral repertoire.
Beginning Band is for students interested in learning a wind, brass, or percussion instrument. Whether a complete beginner or with some musical experience, the student will be guided through the basics of playing their selected instrument such as the flute, clarinet, trumpet, and more. Students will develop their passion for music, build teamwork skills, and make new friends in a fun and supportive environment that prepares them to join one of our other instrumental ensembles.
Middle School Band is for students in grades 6-8 that have played an instrument for at least one year. They continue to develop their musical skills through practicing scales, learning new pieces of music, and performing in at least two concerts during the school year. Depending on skills developed through the year, a church performance may be included. The band also gets to attend a music festival where they form a large ensemble with other schools in the area. Not only does Middle School Band improve individual musical abilities, but it also teaches the students how to work collaboratively to create beautiful music together, fostering a sense of teamwork, discipline, and creativity that will benefit students both in their musical pursuits and beyond.
The Concert Winds have grown through the years to a full-size concert band that focuses on a variety of music genres, producing an excellent blend of instrumentation. Each school year there are concerts, church performances, as well as participation in a local music festival. The Concert Winds also travel, most recently touring the Boston area, but also participated in a Disney workshop in Florida. The band offers a supportive and collaborative environment to hone your skills and make lifelong friendships. Join Concert Winds and embrace the thrill of performing, collaborating with like-minded individuals, and making memories that will last a lifetime.
The Jazz Band is not an organized class, but a fun, small ensemble fueled by the enthusiasm of the students with guidance and instruction from the band director. They perform many times throughout the year for various events such as Fall Festival, Christmas and Spring concerts, banquets, and more. It’s a select group that can be joined only by special invitation from a current player or the director.
The Academy Bell group is open to all students regardless of ringing experience. Class is limited to 13 ringers. Students with experience will be given priority. Performances are expected throughout the year with two culminating concerts at Christmas and spring.
The Spencerville Ringers is a group of advanced bell ringers. This group tours every year. Limited to 11 ringers, students with experience ringing are encouraged to audition. Performances are occur throughout the year with two culminating concerts at Christmas and spring.
